In Dec.21, 2015, Shanghai Municipal People’s Government hold press conference about “Shanghai to adopt 144 hours visa-free policy”. In 2016, Shanghai is expected to extend its visa-free transit policy from 72 hours to 144 hours. And the policy is expected to cover Hangzhou and Nanjing which means travelers will be able to enter and leave from any of the three cities. Meanwhile, the transit ports will not be limited to Shanghai’s Airports (Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport), also cruise terminals and train station.
Take an example, qualified travelers will be able to enter China via Shanghai’s Airport and visit Shanghai, Hangzhou and Nanjing and leave the cities either from Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport or from Nanjing Lukou International Airport.
A definite start date has yet to be announced.
The relaxation on travel restrictions is an upgrade of the current policy that allows passport holders from 51 countries to transit through several Chinese cities for up to 72 hours without a visa. >>read more 72-hour visa-free policy
