On Sep. 17th, 2013, the world highest-altitude civilian airports was opened in Daocheng county, which operates daily flights between Chengdu and Daocheng.
At an elevation of 4,411 meters, Daocheng Yading Airport is the world highest altitude airport, in the mountainous Tibetan Village of Garzi in the south-western Sichuan province.
In the past, travelers can only get to Daocheng from Chengdu by car, which takes more than a day. Now, the flight journey from Chengdu to Daocheng is just around 55 minutes.
